Farm & Food Friday is back!

I’m going to experiment with monthly round-ups of food-related goings-on.

I’d appreciate your feedback. Is this helpful? Enjoyable? What sort of events do you want to see more or less of?

August 3
Watermelon Festival
& Cornhole Tournament
9am till 2pm
Free (fee for the tournament)
Contests include seed spitting, eating and a watermelon crawl

August 10-11
Tomato Day
Greensboro Farmers Curb Market – Lawn
9am till 12pm
Tasting plates, $7; Fried Green Tomato Kit, $6

August 10-11
Sourwood Festival
Black Mountain
9am-8pm & 9am-5pm
All your standard fair fare, plus sourwood & other honey tastings and bee demonstrations

August 16-17
Ocracoke Fig Festival
4 to 8pm & 10am till 11pm
Free, some events have a ticket fee
Georgeann Eubanks wrote such a charming piece on the unique figs found on Ocracoke and their history in her recent book, The Month of Their Ripening, that I have this festival on my calendar.
